Thoughts on Astronomy in general within ESO

In The Elder Scroll series Astronomy has played a role one way or another. TES Lore talks about Certaint Days and Nights,  Star Constellations, and Phases of the Two Moons all have special meaning within ES Calender would/should there be events for them in ESO?

Past MMO's have had a Set Time Zone shards/servers/relams "Coming home start up the PC at 2pm EST and have your ingame time be around 11Am Server Time" And ESO has the Megaserver, would the Campain Phases work as the servers did?

First off, let's refer to Astronomy as Skyence, and Astronomers as Skyentists from now.  Whoever named that field really botched a golden opportunity.

On topic though, I would be down with events like that - somewhat assuming we're talking about in-game holidays (which could be simply a "on X day at Y shrine a magic lazor shoots down from the sky unlocking Z quest or event" type deal.

Regarding server time, I would prefer that it be locked to Central US, just to have an average time for US Citizens.  The other regions could have a similar mechanic.

I expect they will make certain events/festivals occur in game as @Isarii has said. Would be nice to see some of them used in different ways to the usual generic ones like 'Winter Feast' Xmas holiday though. Would be even better if each faction/race had at least one special event or holiday that the others did not - after all they do all have different customs and beliefs so it would be cool to include that.

Interesting point on the constellations though. I really liked choosing a starsign that your character was born under and that gave you a bonus ability or boost to something. I would like that to be included but I don't think that it will since they already dispensed with it in Skyrim.

Let's not confuse Astronomy with Astrology.  The observation of the Constellations has less to do with Astronomy than Astrology at this point of a civilizations technical expertise, Tamriel's included.  When they begin to assign distances, composition, physics, and lifespan of the stars, then it's more Astronomy.  Ships crews guided by and behaved according to Astrology; men who measured the stars brightness and relative positions to other stars as the world turned, Astronomy.  You can have both an Astronomer and an Astrologist in the same room at the same time, but both differ in their approach and utilization of the stars.

Keep in mind that stars in Elder Scrolls aren't giant balls of fire in space. They are holes to Aetherius, the realm of magic, ripped by the Magna Ge when they fled Creation. The sun is the biggest hole, because it was ripped by Magnus, the magic itself. All magic on Tamriel only exists because it is pouring out of Aetherius through all the holes.

    Relax, I’m only being serious.

I would love if there were shrines or monuments much like Stonehenge with stones placed that mark sunrise/sundown on specific days n stuff, that would be the cherry on top if it was tied to some lore. Im sure explorers would love it too.

My bad to use Astronomy in with Astrology, I forgot that, as of the 17th century they are considered differient classes of their own. I was going by my knowledge from Old World Studies...

“on X day at Y shrine unlocking Z quest” reminds me of Daggerfall Summoning I could never get Namira Quest done till it came out for download.

The constellation of the Serpent, which is impossible to track has moved across the Sky and know blocks all other constellations. This is bad for all races!

There was a MUD (Multi User Dungeon) called Dragon Realms.  DR had a constellation system that only moon mages could use.

By using a skill to observe constellations, they could then provide buffs to players.  Also, their mana and spellpower were tied to phases of the moon and position of the stars.  Their spells involved psychic powers and power over moonlight.  It was intriguing.  I've never seen anything like it since.

It would be awesome if a class or two could use a theme like that.  I doubt they could use the mechanics, but the theme could be very fun.
