The Purifying Mage - Ranged Magplar - Summerset Ready

The Purifying Mage - Summerset Ready

May the Aedric Light burn your enemies and bless your friends!!!

So,….After a bunch of testing, there actually isn’t too much of a change this patch for Ranged Magplar besides the new Bloodthirsty trait! Everything in the Psijic line unfortunately performed worse in my testing. A shame really, because I really liked the Psijic spammable and spent all that time leveling up the skill line,… :P

There are two options for this patch though that I found performs well. Both use Siroria, as it’s such a  good set. Even the non-perfected is really good. The Siroria circle is about the same size as the channeled focus circle, so we are already kind of used to staying in a circle this size. It’s just something to sort of keep in mind to maximize DPS, but even if you don’t pay attention to it, Siroria still outperforms other sets. There is a nice Siroria add-on that shows you the timer for when your circle will drop, which can be useful.

So the two setups are:

Non-Spammable DoT setup:

Food: Blue Max Health and Max Magicka

Potions: Essence of Spell Damage

Mundus: Apprentice

Champion Points: (See above Screenshot)

Gear:

2pc Illambris (Heavy & Medium all Magicka Enchants)

5pc Siroria (Jewelry all Bloodthirsty Trait or Armor Magicka Enchant)

5pc Mother’s Sorrow or Julianos (Jewelry with spell dmg enchant and all Bloodthirsty Trait or Armor and Flame Staff Infused with Flame Enchant)

1pc vMA Lightning staff Infused with Shock Enchant

The difference between Mother’s Sorrow and Julianos is small, but I found Julianos is better for Magplar! Probably because 10% of our damage comes form a non-critable source (Power of the light and Illambris)  but either works.

Bloodthirsty trait for jewelry is very nice on a Magplar. Radiant Oppression hits like a ton of bricks, 60k+ ticks easy in trials.

Bar Setup:

I’m playing with Ice Comet instead of Shooting Star and I’m kind of liking this morph better. You sacrifice AoE DPS because of the ultimate regeneration being slower, but get more single target, either way works though, so your choosing. In situations where you NEED the destro ult, slot that, but in Trials too, many times ultimates need to be coordinated at a specific time so getting it charged faster doesn’t necessarily help with DPS. So I’m going with Ice Comet this patch.

Bars look like this:

vMA Lightining Bar:

Elemental Blockade - Blazing Spear - Channeled Focus - Inner Light - Harness Magicka -- Ice Comet/Shooting Star

The vMA bar is the same on both builds, and the flame staff bar is shown in the screenshot of both builds.

Rotation is very very simple for the first one:

Light attack weaving between EVERY skill (very important as light attacks got a damage buff this patch) and Ultimate and Potions on Cooldown:

Elemental Blockade -> Blazing Spear -> Channeled Focus {every other} or (Elemental Drain if dummy parse) - Bar Swap

Purifying Light -> Vampires Bane -> Destructive Clench - Bar Swap

REPEAT.

< 25% Health - Keep up Elemental Blockade and Blazing Spear and only use Radiant Oppression with light attacks in-between  on Flame Staff bar

<8% Health - Radiant Oppression spam (use light attacks in-between)

This Magplar setup is one of the easiest rotations ever, especially on execute! This makes is easy to pay attention to mechanics in Trials / Dungeons and reduces the amount of mistakes to virtually nil…..

6 Million Parse Below

Force Pulse Semi-Spammable Setup

This setup works quite well to my surprise. We’ll be using the Asylum staff with Force Pulse

Food: Blue Max Health and Max Magicka

Potions: Essence of Spell Damage

Mundus: Apprentice

Gear:

2pc Illambris (Heavy & Medium all Magicka Enchants)

5pc Siroria (Armor Magicka Enchant)

3pc Willpower Jewelry (Spell damage enchant and Bloodthirsty Trait)

1pc vMA Lightning Staff Infused with Shock Enchant

1pc Perfected Asylum Staff Infused with Flame Enchant

Rotation isn’t set in stone, but there are two modes. The “I have plenty of Magicka” mode and the “I’m low on Magicka mode” Usually if I’m above 50% I use the former, and if I’m below 50% I use the latter.

Rotation is:

“I have plenty of Magicka”

Light attack weaving between EVERY skill (very important as light attacks got a damage buff this patch) and Ultimate and Potions on Cooldown:

Elemental Blockade -> Blazing Spear -> Channeled Focus {every other} or (Elemental Drain if dummy parse) - Bar Swap

Force Pulse -> Purifying Light -> Vampires Bane -> Force Pulse -> Force Pulse  -> Bar Swap

REPEAT

“I’m low on Magicka mode”

Light attack weaving between EVERY skill (very important as light attacks got a damage buff this patch) and Ultimate and Potions on Cooldown:

Elemental Blockade -> Blazing Spear -> Channeled Focus {every other} or (Elemental Drain if dummy parse) - Bar Swap

Force Pulse -> Purifying Light -> Vampires Bane - Bar Swap

Lightining Heavy Attack - REPEAT

Execute

< 25% Health - Keep up Elemental Blockade and Blazing Spear and only use one Force Pulse and Radiant Oppression with light attacks in-between on Flame Staff bar

<8% Health - Radiant Oppression spam (use light attacks in-between)

6 Million Parse Below

The below parse was completely self-buffed, meaning I was applying eledrain myself. If in trials with Orbs, and healer applied Eledrain I would imagine the DPS to be higher than with the DoT only setup, to put it on par or maybe even better than the DoT only setup, but I’m just speculating here….

Ranged Magplar is very strong this patch in my opinion, has one of the easiest rotations and also has group support on call if needed. I always have a set of Kagernac’s if needed, You can slot Ritual of Ret instead of Vampire’s Bane for extra group healing, or even use Breath of Life in your rotation for those 3DPS 1Tank dungeon runs…. Magplar is quite versatile and performs really well…

I LOVE THIS BUILD, currently running it with 500cp, and doing 30k dps on the 3m dummy with unoptimised gear as well.

Why the lightning vMA staff over inferno? Would the dps be much different?

yes, if you're going to use Illambris, then you need lightning/inferno. You could do Valkin and run witchmother's brew and go full light attack build with double inferno. But i like the heavy attack also for AoE DPS. And the resourse return from Lightning Heavy is bigger then inferno heavy.

I'm very much enjoying your non-spammable build however I feel like I'm doing something wrong.  I'm hitting nowhere near your numbers and despite how easily explained the rotation is I feel like I'm overcasting my DoTs or I'm letting Purifying Light fall off.  Is there any chance for a video reference?

Ugh, that's a lot of work,.... what if you post a video of you doing the rotation so I can see where to make changes? Also a mybuild or superstar screenshot would help.

Have you tested the changes on the PTS? Do you think they'll hurt your build with the nerf to sustain?
