ESO: Elf Models.

Hello Everyone! I'm new to these parts so forgive me if someone has already posted about this. But I was wondering what do you guys think regarding how the elves should look. Do you think they should lean more towards the beautiful perfect elves (Physically and morally) which seems like the path they are taking, or do you prefer Skyrims approach which was more along the lines of gaunt and intimidating with a very non-human quality (My personal opinion on them).

I personally really detest the lord of the ring style elf, I think one of the things that I find awesome about the ES was how they changed the image of Elves completely.

I wouldn't worry about having Tolkien elves in ESO. They'll probably make the like in Skyrim since it seems they are basing a lot of their desing on it anyway

ALL elves are a thing of beauty and wholesome apperiance to behold! to see them protrayed as thier true beautification and superiority of all the other races is a perfect rendition of the truth!

we elves are the superior Master Race! any other apperiance for us is only something that a Filthy Swit would desire.

I liked the elves in ES5 a whole lot more then then in ES4 they looked more real and not as human like. To change that now would be a in my opinion the wrong direction of ESO.

On the other hand, Skyrim's elves were the evil ones. ZOS want's the player to at least feel like the good guy, so certain obvious differences will be implemented, I think.

    Relax, I’m only being serious.

I meant in appereance and skills only.

Besides, only the Thalmor are assholes in Skyrim (kinda like the Nords in Windhelm) while the rest are just as morally grey as any other character

generaly its less about evil and more about the facial features. in TES. elves always look like what a robot would think humans would find beautifull.

They have features that are generaly seen as aesthetically pleasing by humans. such as high cheekbones, almond shaped eyes, long faces, straight noses and so on. But they take these qualities to the extreme, wich makes them look utterly alien.

Having way too pronounced cheekbones, very long faces, weirdly shaped eyes and long noses.

And i hope they stick with this, however, knowing the MMO audience, people will be upset if elves arent pretty.

Something different from the facial structure tho. If you paid attention to the recently released screenshots, you can clearly see that there are dunmer with Human like Skin colour.

This can be observed here http://videogamewriters.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/ESO-video.jpg

In the Video you will see more of this, such as when the Player is greeted by the dunmer civillians, you can clearly see many of them having human like caucasian skin types.

Considering the backstory of the Dunmer Race, and the curse of Azura, one has to conclude that this is not lightly, but heavily lorebreaking. To the point that it defeats the point of the change in the point of view in the race.

What im saying is that if they implement this, they not only highly break the lore of the game but play down the folly of the Chimer.

We, as the community, cannot let this happen.

Probably the most hated thing(to me) about what's been done to elves is those damn corn husk ears. Ever since WoW came out.....suddenly elves have to have these loooooong, pointy ears.

Fantasy art did not always depict them as such...and I for one would like to see a return to the "roots" of elven dignity.

    Just my two septims.

well actually the long ears predate wow. and dunmer ears are actually quite long in comparison to traditional fantasy elves.

@Sordak For all we know, those people aren't mostly Dunmer.  Plenty of people of different Races other than the Dunmer must have lived in Morrowind at this time.

I wouldn't be surprised at all, if NPC civilians who are Races in all 3 Factions would be living in the same towns, in quite a few of the Provinces.

Morrowind, High Rock, Hammerfell, & even Skyrim could be Provinces where you could find NPCs of many Races.

oh dont come with this hair splitting. the picture i just posted is of PLAYER characters. none of these can be of any race. not to mention that the NPCs in town clearly have elven ears and that this skin colour is lore breaking for all Elves but Falmer, and i doubt youll try to tell me that falmer live in Indoril reigned morrowind.

There is another player Character screenshot that shows 3 dunmer that have non lore apropriate skin colours.

Just trying to disregard it by saying "well that could be any race" is not a good way of aproaching issues like this.

@Sordak Where the hell do you see ears in that picture? These things on the far left look more like helmet ornaments to me.

Yeah was fun cutting down all them at the Thalmor place and the armor they had was pretty too though it was a bit to gawdy looking for me...Why bother sneakin' around when you can just cut them all down and still make it :)

because ive seen them at an earlier point of the video, im talking about the mage on the right.

look at the Introduction to TESO video at 3:02 minutes. You can even see one more Character that does look like a human skinned Dunmer in that one.

at 6:37 at least 2 of these villagers are dunmer with lore conflicting skin colours.

Elves need to keep their traditional TES look. I've played some MMOs where the devs make the elves look like gods or something, and I really don't want that in ESO.

Yeah, I will refuse to play any elf if they decide to go that path. I mean ok they can have the pricy perfect looking elves but let that be an option , If I want to look like a "ugly" elf from Skyrim I better be able to. I think this is a Altmer, in this picture but I'm not sure. It gives me "some" hope but what do you guys think?

That's just Indoril armor, the one used by ordinators of the Temple

”To face me in all my glory would be less than sporting, so you shall face but one of my aspects, the one you have chosen. We have little time–the Bloodmoon sinks low in the sky. Prepare yourself, mortal, for now you are the Hunted.

That's actually Indoril armor, I think. But if I can make an elf that has a face like that, I'm all in for switching to the AD!

I would say in ESO I think they would find a medium between the "ugly" Skyrim elves and the beautiful immortal elves. It seems like the most rational option because you don't want them looking to "ugly" as you people put it, but at the same time you don't want them looking too perfect.
