Elemental Guardian – Magicka Warden DD Build (Summerset)

None

Heya, it’s me again, Masel. Now that Summerset is out I wanted to showcase a Build that has been a lot of fun in vMA on the PTS and that also puts out good damage and support in group content.

It uses some new sets and Skills, notably elemental weapon and the new 5+5+2 staff possibility. This is a fun Build that can dish out a lot of damage if you do it right and also buff your Group  (minor force & minor vulnerability, snare through chilled and very high burning uptime). I got Flawless on PTS on first try without a Mundus Stone (forgot it).

Race:

Altmer is simply the best. 4% on all our damage, max Magicka and Magicka recovery suits this build. Dunmer and Breton are second and third choice.

Stats (with major prophecy):

None

Attributes all 64 into magicka.

Food:

Either Blue Max Magicka and Health Food or Clockwork Citrus Filet  (Witchmothers Brew is also okay).

Gear:

Group Gear:

Solo Gear:

Bar Setup:

Main Bar(Inferno Staff):

Harness Magicka(Solo)/Pulsar(Group), Elemental Weapon, Fetcher Infection, Living Trellis (Solo)/Balance(Group), Inner Light

Ultimate: Elemental Rage(solo)/Eternal Guardian(group)

 None

Off Bar(Inferno Staff):

Blue Betty, Winter's Revenge, Blockade of Fire, Channeled Acceleration/Chrystallised Slab, Inner Light/Harness Magicka (Group)

Ultimate: Shooting Star(solo)/Eternal Guardian(group)

 None

Let's walk through the new warden and psijic skills that we're using real quick:

Betty Netch:

Restores resources, in and out of combat and is free to cast. Also removes a negative effect for free. So when you have a snare, dot or anything on you, use it to get rid of it. Also this gives you the 12% stay and mag recovery passive, you want it on your front bar.

Living Trellis:

This is a great emergency skill for vMA. You need to keep this up 100% of the time, and in case you are in danger, shield up, cast this, and it will heal you when you get hit. Also it gives a big burst heal when it ends or you recast it.

Elemental Weapon:

Awesome skill. Very cheap, hits hard, applies a random status effect and stacks orbs for the psijic skill passive.

Channeled Acceleration:

Finally a source of minor force for magicka builds. You can basically use either morph, but the longer one saves a lot of resources and makes the overall rotation easier.

Eternal Guardian:

Insane single target dps, use this whenever possible. In trials this guy (or girl #feminism) carries our butt. With Master Architect, remember to use it on the FRONT bar.

FAQ:

Why Skoria?

Simple: Looks cool, and there's no better monster set if we need a bit of health.

Why elemental waepon?

It is a really great skill, good job ZoS. Looks awesome, feels great to use and hits really hard.

Why a Back Bar vMA staff? What if I don’t have one?

Because they still make light attacks hit insanely hard (look at the parse below). If you don’t have one, doesn’t matter, simply use another Set /or a master lightning staff with infused/precise and either a drain magicka poison or a weapon damage enchant on.

Why Channeled Acceleration?

Lasts long, gives a necessary buff and finally gets rid of rearming trap...

How do we Sustain a Light attack rotation?

Balance. This skill is so great in group content (up to 300 mag per second). I also tried meditate, but in fights i never really found time to use it as a DD. Also, we have Blue Betty (196 magicka per second).

CP Allocation:

Red and Green depend on the trial. Blue is as follows

56 Thaumaturge

56 Elemental Expert

56 Elfborn

56 Master-at-arms

Rest into spell erosion,

The new CP system changes how they work, as most of the trees now have jump points. The returns from them get floored to the full percentage value, e.g. Investing 15.4% in a tree will effectively give you a 15% return.

So you want to use the points in a way of where you don't waste too many. The above distribution is always just above the full percentage for trees that have jump points.

Dummy Parse with the Group Setup:

Fully Solo, with a healer providing orbs and drain you can get 40k+ easily. Here's a cheese selfbuffed 6 million parse with lover and zaan:

A decent player could probably get out a lot more, but the lag on ths PTS with 200 latency is so annoying...

I welcome! At once I apologize for my English - it is not my native language and I use the translator)

First, thanks for the first guide on the basis of "ice" (winterborn set has begun to collect as soon as has made the preorder)). It is a pity that at the moment there is no sense in a frost staff

Secondly, several questions from the beginner:

    1) on how many illambris x2 light than is better than "medium

    + heavy"?

    2) unless Major Prophecy from Lotus Blossom doesn't duplicate same from Inner Light (and potions?)? Really +2% of magic cost 2 slots?

    3) well and the most interesting question - DPS)

    - how many it turns out on a skeleton?

    - in random dungeon (on average)?

    - how many approximately to wait with "usual" costume jewelry and staffs?

Thanks, I hope the guide will be will be replenished - at present it is pleasant to me most and is taken as a basis

    Hey Masel,

Nice build, I like the alternate style of thought and was trying something similar on pts.

Testing on live yesterday lotus flower/blossum wasn't giving any heals from medium weaves... infact since they removed heals of channels on heavy attacks i noticed medium weaves lost all heal procs even on pts.

Have you noticed this as it significantly impacts the effectiveness of the skill.

What? What have they done? Dear God... I can't test right now, but if that's true it's plain stupid. The skill is literally useless in the build then, and it was the main carrier through vMA of it...

i used the same gear as your dk heavy build but replaced spinners for necro.

i tried winterborn but it almost never procs i got my clear though after 2 deaths with one from poison on stage 7 last boss and something killed me on 8 cant remember.

that was the better setup for me due to the large shields and i could ignore most mechanics

    Hey!

I really love the use of winterborn, been waiting for this set to get usefull, but I also want to use necropotence for the incredible magicka bonus, and alcast got a build with this set and he doesnt use monster sets, what do you think of dropping illambris and running 5 winterborn and 5 necro?

Have you tried this build in Trials?

I would like to see how it preforms in Vet Maw, AA, etc.

I'm back in the game tomorrow and will test it as soon as I unlock the line on my warden.

But my guess is yes it is. The build should work fine without it too though. Leeching vines + shield is definitely enough.

I started leveling my warden on live yesterday and will test the build asap, but when he's 50 I still need to do mages guild, skyshards and PvP for guard...

Nice ideas man, but in dd you really don't need lotus, because innter light do the same and healer will heal you + inner light do more magicka.

Maybe better do with sharpened weapon, why you really use infused and charged?

Would it not be beneficial to put northern storm on the second bar? The max magicka would scale better with winters revenge wouldn't it? Also the elemental rage would get a 10% damage increase from being on fire as well.

Don't forget that Green Balance abilities give you 250 stamina or magicka whenever you heal an ally. Overall it's going to give you a sustain boost if you keep weaving right. I have used this build successfully in vMoL yesterday and will use it In HoF as soon as possible.

I made a few tweaks to this build that improve it further, as the rotation is fairly hard to sustain, notably switching out destructive clench for fetcher infection and using Betty on the back bar.

I dropped lotus blossom for vMA as living trellis is actually enough healing when combined with a shield and two animal companion abilities. Betty and Fetcher infection also heal you when they end, so that's quite a lot healing that comes together. As far as guard+lotus is concerned, you can ofc also use spell power potions, but I have seen the prices on those things lately and I avoid using them even more then before.

I use charged with a shock enchant because the off-balance and minor vulnerability effect that basically procs all the time gives you an 18% damage increase. Sharpened is only a 10.32% damage increase, and with the frontloaded cp, charged outperforms sharpened by a big margin.

You are on your main bar for about 85% of the time. So having northern storm on the back bar will 100% give you a Damage loss. Winter's revenge has the same damage scaling as the other skills (it only crits less for some reason), and also, ground aoes adjust their damage based on the bar that you're on, so when you drop them an then switch to the front bar you're going to benefit from it as well.

Firy rage is weaker than thunderous rage. Fiery rage gives 10% more damage over 7 seconds, effectively giving you 7.7 seconds. Thunderous rage on the other hand gives you 9 seconds, as it has a 2 second longer duration.

I'm still working on an ideal rotation. Problem on the warden is that many animations are kinda clunky, especially that netch often prevents me from bar swap canceling it...

Updated with a full flawless vMA run!

Hmm you say you want Netch on front bar for the passives, but in both setups you have it on your back bar?

Still haven't had time to level any warden yet, but it looks really fun to play :)

Netch is fine on the back because fetcher is on the front so you get passive bonuses on both bars.
