Tamriel Foundry Code of Conduct

Tamriel Foundry Code of Conduct

Last Updated - February 06, 2018

Welcome to the Tamriel Foundry community! These are the rules for participation on our forums and in other segments of our community. By choosing to post on Ashen Foundry, you are implicitly agreeing to abide by these rules. Failure to do so can result in suspension or closure of your account at the discretion of Foundry Network staff and moderation teams. The objective of these guidelines is not to be stifling or oppressive, but to ensure that Ashen Foundry is a place where our growing community can continue to engage in high quality discourse that everyone involved can take pride in.

I. Membership Expectations

In broad terms, the general expectation of Foundry members is that everyone does their best to act mature, constructive, and respectful when participating in the community. We recommend that participants in the Foundry community be 18 years of age or older.

We expect our users to maintain only one account and that this account be intended as representative of the individual behind it. Duplicate accounts may be deleted without warning. Accounts that could be confused for a moderator, admin, ZeniMax Online employee, or other member of the community - intentionally or otherwise - will be offered the ability to change their name, and we reserve the right to close the account if the offer is refused or ignored. In general, users are encouraged to use a name that corresponds to their preferred in-game name.

II. Posting Expectations

Tamriel Foundry has high expectations of its members. We are a forum for high quality, intellectual discussion; as a result, we strongly encourage members to share the reasoning behind the opinions they choose to share, rather than simply hurling hollow one liners that add little to the discussion. Posts that are lacking in meaningful content may be removed without warning. Please keep this in mind before seeking to bolster your post count with spam.

Flaming, trolling, and troll-baiting are prohibited. Even if you strongly disagree with the content of a post, or really, really hate the poster, you are expected to exercise personal restraint and refrain from posting personal attacks. Attack the idea, not the person who posted it.

Please choose the correct subforum for your topic. Double and cross-posting of topics or comments is prohibited; if you think of more you'd like to add to your original post, please do so by editing the post, rather than submitting another comment. Do not post consecutively except as formatting tool to break up exceptionally lengthy blocks of text. It just looks ugly.

Tempting as it sometimes may be, please do not embark on a personal mission to correct the spelling and/or grammar of others. Even if your corrections are valid, such posts will be deleted. Correcting typos or errors is the individual responsibility of the original poster and the moderators of this forum, and attempts to do so for others generally only serve to derail the topic at hand.

III. Prohibited Behaviors

Tamriel Foundry only accepts posts written in English. This does not include text-speak, 1337-speak, or other bastardizations of English that are excessively laden with slang, abbreviations, or an unnecessary reliance on acronyms and initialisms.

Posts which contain racist, sexist, homophobic, political or religious messages, sexually explicit content or images, or otherwise “stir the pot” regarding inflammatory social issues are not allowed and will be removed without notification.

Profanity is allowed within reason, so long as it's not excessive and does not violate any other rules, particularly those prohibiting personal attacks or racist, sexist, and homophobic submissions. Egregious violations of the latter will be met with little to no tolerance and may result in immediate suspension (there shouldn't be any doubt as to exactly what language this rule includes).

We do not intend to serve as a linking service or a search engine for other sites. Links that are disallowed anywhere on any Foundry Network site (including user profiles and signatures) include links to sites that feature:

  • Pornographic, racist, or illegal materials, including game cheats, hacks, or torrents of copyrighted works.
  • Explicitly “for profit” sites. Specifically, websites that earn the poster a profit/commission or sites that give points for incoming links.
  • Sites containing excessive advertising packages, popups, trojans, keyloggers, malware of any form, or any other malicious content.
  • Advertisement for item and/or gold farming, powerleveling, account auctions, or links to sites which engage in these activities.

The discussion of hacks, cheats, and exploits is prohibited. You may not ask for help in creating a hack/cheat, provide instructions regarding how to exploit the game, or provide links to where such tools can be downloaded. Discussions pertaining to the impact or morality of using such programs is occasionally permitted and we allow such topics of conversation (within reason) so long as they do not violate any other rule.

Do not engage in unnatural bumping of threads. If your thread is good, it will be responded to and promoted naturally. Unnatural bumping includes posting low-effort comments with no value on their own, stating things like "bump" or "to the top".

IV. Social Systems

Do not spam other community members with unsolicited or arbitrary friendship requests, private messages, or guild invitations. Nobody likes spam. Only send requests or messages to community members with whom you genuinely identify.

Activity within the social systems of the Foundry Network are subject to the full set of rules which govern forum posting. Private messages are not an appropriate venue for discussions which violate any of the rules outlined in this Code of Conduct. We do not read your mail, but if you are reported to moderators for harassment via private messages, action can be taken against your account.

V. Content Violations and Moderation

If you feel that any post violates this code of conduct and wish to report it to a moderator, we encourage the use of the “report post” button on the top right of every post. Please refrain from @mentioning moderators to attract their attention or publicly condemning the violations of others - this typically only makes matters worse. Falsely, needlessly, or repeatedly using this reporting feature is considered spamming and may result in account action - blowing up our inboxes with fake reports only makes it harder for us moderate actual infractions.

Keep in mind that Tamriel Foundry is a private, volunteer-run community unaffiliated with ZeniMax Online Studios. We're also not a part of the United States Federal Government, so we don't really need to hear any diatribes on free speech, either. We reserve the right take account action such as suspension or closure at any time. We reserve the right to edit, move, or delete any post made on Tamriel Foundry without warning or explanation. Similarly, we reserve the right to edit any portion of a member profile without warning - though we probably won't unless we have a good reason.

We consider the behavior of our members holistically, and not just by their submissions on Tamriel Foundry. Slanderous or libelous content targeting the site or its staff on other public outlets is still grounds for Foundry Network account closure.

All actions taken by moderation staff stem from a sincere desire to grow Tamriel Foundry as a community and preserve a high quality of discourse on the site. If action is applied to your submissions or account, please take this reasonably and move on. We ban the person, not the account; registering a new account to circumvent moderator action will result in another banned account. If you would like to appeal a ban or account action, please contact [email protected]

VI. Legal Small Print

If you post or submit something to our site or forums — be it an article, a news item, a strategy guide, or a suggestion — it becomes the property of Tamriel Foundry. That means if we leave it in the forum, it is still your work, but we have rights to it as well. If we allow it to be present on the site or use it in any form, you agree that you have no financial claim against this site. We do not demand that posted material be exclusively ours, but once something is submitted to us for publication or posted in our forums, its removal is entirely at our discretion.

Ashen Foundry assumes no responsibility for the content of posts made by members or off site websites linked to on these forums.  We are not liable for any damage or distress post content may cause to an individual or their property.  We assume all members have read these forums rules and automatically agree to their terms and conditions. Users follow any offsite links at their own risk.

We reserve the right to amend these rules at our discretion and without notification. The onus is on the member to periodically check these rules for changes. The date of the most recent addition is listed at the top of this page.
