@dagothursvk @win32 since you both left there was no stat scaling... Meaning hybrid mag-stam builds were viable because skills did not scale to the relevant stats associated. The game today is generally split into either stamina + weapon damage + weapon crit OR magicka + spell damage + spell crit. This means as a damage dealer you need to invest in one direction to be at all useful. i recommend reading a few things to understand game mechanics better since the change in march 2015 with the 1.6 game patch...

First look at Asayre's thread below to understand damage output: http://tamrielfoundry.com/topic/pts-2-1-2-sorcerer-arithmagic/ Next i recommend reading up on the most up to date stamina and magicka build threads to see the right choices to make with skill morphs and gear. In general, damage > crit > max attribute. Also go here:

    http://tamrielfoundry.com/topic/general-tips-for-new-or-returning-players/

Poke around through the skills to see what they do now... Lots of changes. Especially look through the armor, weapon and champion points passives. then go level! Complete vet silver and gold if you havent yet to rank up skills quickly with quest xp - plus the character xp will be good until v14+ in those areas. More importantly, relearn the gameplay with your new skill bars. After v13-14 hit orsinium or cyrodill delves/dailies to get your v16 done.

@win32 just keep questing since you are v5. @dagothursvk you probably want to skip right back to endgame but a v12 will obviously be irrelevant, and you have a ways to go to understand rotations and how to max dps or tank in the new environment. Check out my tank thread to understand some of the strengths of dk tanking and see my approach at swapping to dps build when needed. I would just grind out your v16 with some paijic ambrosia xp pots. Try old orsinium dungeon for that, being a partner for boosted xp (two people you get more per kill... So that is a thing now).

That's exactly kind of answer I was hoping to get ... thanks a lot mrowmrif2. I'll read up on the things in upcoming days and will start my "catch up". Can't wait :).

In case anyone else went through this stage (returning player) and has some tips, feel free to post. Currently I dug around ingame a bit, have 1,2m gold, ebony heavy set + some dps set. I'll put some new traits to research in the meantime and gonna probably set some hireling skills on my mule characters.

    Thank you mrowmrif2!

I bookmarked that two links and for start I go with new DK Imperial (just for few days and to see new gear, skills in fight etc.).

After few days, I will go on my old VR5 DK Redguard.

I was played with sword and board and 2h sword but right now I think that's not best thing (with new patch).

Maybe to replace sword and board with bow (only bad thing is that I played all my time with 2h sword and 1h sword and shield and because of that I don't have anything leveled on any other weapon) ?

Crafting? I always need food and maybe is best for now to invest all my points in provisioning and alchemy?

All health points will be reseted and all invested in stamina.

My armor (and weapons) is medium/light blue and purple combination of Night Mother's Gaze Set and Armor of the Seducer, that's probably trash today and need to replace that.

Must find some people to craft new gear but for now I will buy some gear from traders just for casual leveling.

Alright, so I've read all there is until now - quite a lot new.

Q1. Any clue if some of the Craglorn items are still viable to use or should i just drop everything, craft some vr12 gear and get going with leveling? I've got ebony heavy/hist crafted heavy/seducer light.

Q2. Should I buy all the DLCs and just quest away (where first in case this option) or go farm orsinium dungeon (your initial post)?

Q3. Am a werewolf right now - keep or switch to vampire (pvp, dunmer passive may offset the downside of vampirism)? Prolly vampire is not the best for a tank :) but maybe you guys got it working anyway.

Vampire is pretty terrible for tanks imo...  Im a ww but dont slot any skills so it is also pointless.  In pvp either are decent but you have to slot skills on an active skillbar to receive the regens.

crag items are fine if you are just leveling but otherwise anything not v16 is crap at max level.

Dont feel like you need to buy any dlc - but the xp in old orsinium is good for sure.  And trinimacs jewelry is nice for tanking mag dk.

Wanted to make a status update, which might come in handy for future returning guys.

After reading all the suggested topics from mrowmrif2 I've started with reading all the skills and re-learning the basic stuff as for mechanics goes. Afterwards I did install some of the handy addons, which I loved (FTC etc.) and joined a active guild. Got some tips as for some grinding/leveling spots. Started to do pledges right away, re-searching all the crafting and looking into the guild stores (new to me). What helped me a lot were addons showing missing part of map / crafting addons - simplified getting back into it.

After like 12 hour of playtime (gf + work) I'm v15 and around 60% . Still rocking the v12 armor I used to wear at release/Craglorn patch. Figured I'll be wasting a lot of mats/money on v16 so need to keep em for those.

My observation from this whole returning process: ESO has a lot of stuff to offer for a returning player. It's way more fun than it used to - basically when i left there were only trials (did all of em - leaderboards), dungeons (with no purpose outside getting some gear) and PVP (wasn't worth the subscription on its own).

After hitting v16 I'll work on the gear suggestions in Endgame Gear… Drops vs Crafted as I won't be able to get the top-notch stuff right away. Any suggestions on the gearing part from the experienced guys?

    Good stuff :)

You will be happy to hear that the top endgame gear is 80-90% crafted apart from some monster sets and niche situational or build-specific sets.  Check out some builds in the theorycrafting areas to see what people are running.  Generally for magicka for any class it is 5 julianos or twice born star, (2 torug, 1-2 kena)/4 magnus; stamina is 5 hundings/night mothers gaze, 1 kena, 1 bloodspawn, 2 leki/night mothers gaze/hundings.  Jewelry is either willpower or agility.

Just came back and hit 160 Champions Points on my 1st char, which had been an Orc Stamblade, which I understand is pretty tough going.  Was thinking of setting him down for a while, since I hit 160, and trying to get some other characters up there.  Where is the "meta" at in a broad sense now as far as classes go, and magicka vs. stamina?

Magicka are currently the trend for pve trial group dps builds, and in pvp you see a spread of everything after the rebalancing that happened woth TG patch and cp rework.

How are they going to scale all of the different gear now? Such as v5, v14, and v16 gear and so on. Will everyone level 50 be able to equip every piece of gear? Will they all have the same stats now? Or are they going to require a certain amount of champion points instead of veteran ranks now?

Also, is there an updated list of gear? Thanks.

not sure if this is allowed so please correct me if not, but i'm new to the game so i figured this would be a good thread to ask for advice.

i've built a Templar but cannot decide to run Magic or Stamina, I'm Imperial so i'm aware of my racial Stamina boost, however i've been told Magicka was where to put points because as an Imperial, my Stamina will already be good. i'm a noob, so forgvie my ignorance lol.

Well if you are an imperial it is definitely better to leverage the racial bonus and go full stamina.  Skill damage is based on your related attribute, so stamina skills are based on stamina... Putting points in magicka and wearing any magicka gear as a stam build basically makes you gimped toward your potential.  Unless you are a tank you dont use both (you buff/debuff with the opposite stat usually but not damage or heal).  I would make sure you take that back to whoever gave you the bad advice...  If they argue, point them to foundry.

    Good day all,

So the past few days i started playing ESO again after quitting it a year ago. I went for a Sorcerer (Magicka based so far) High elf.

Always enjoyed playing as a Sorcerer focussed on dealing damage. I am more a staff kinda person rather than using shields or dual wield.

Now i've read a few builds online such as:

    http://deltiasgaming.com/eso-magic-sorcerer-dps-build/

    http://deltiasgaming.com/eso-magic-sorcerer-pvp/

    http://tamrielfoundry.com/topic/one-approach-to-leveling-a-magicka-based-sorcerer/

I have a few questions for some of the more experienced players out there:

    1. What is the difference between Lightning and Inferno staffs in-game when it comes to damage and such. Pro's and cons?
    2. What would you guys recommend as ability bars for level 1 - 50? And maybe after that?
    3. What are the most important skills/passives i should level along the way?
    4. Still have left 3000 crowns on my account from playing a year ago, anything i should buy apart from a mount (already have imperial edtion horse)

Hope you guys can provide me with some ideas on how to get back in to the game again !

    Thanks in advance
