Tanky Templar PvE “The Undying Tank” – Clockwork City

NOTE: This is based on what I played on PS4 before I recently switched back to PC. All dungeons is done with ease, I have not tried Trials, but this build has good potential in my opinion. Pictures and videos will come as soon as I have received my new computer.

    Introduction

This is a Magicka Based Tank.
Sun Shield ability is the main spammable skill.
The Sun Shield gets bigger the more health you have, therefore we have tons of health and magicka regen.

    Attribute Points

Try to have 60K Health or more, it helps alot!

    • 0 – Magicka
    • 64 – Health
    • 0 – Stamina

    Gear

    Gear Setup 1

    • Why no monster set? Warrior-Poet gives us the health bonus we had as a Nord.

    Chest, Belt, Shoes, Pants, Hands:

    Plague Doctor, Heavy, Divine, Health.

    Head, Shoulder:

    Warrior-Poet, Heavy, Divine, Health.

    Necklace, Ring, Ring:

    Warrior-Poet, Healthy.

    Weapon 1:

Sword of Endurance, Defending, Restore Magicka Enchant.

    Off-Hand:

Shield of Endurance, Infused, Health Enchant.

    Weapon 2:

    Restoration Staff, Defending, Absorb Magicka.

    Gear Setup 2

    • My personal favorite. The first one is probably the way to go, but if you want a monster set, this is the one.

    Chest, Belt, Shoes, Pants, Hands:

    Plague Doctor, Heavy, Divine, Health.

    Head, Shoulder:

    Engine Guardian, Heavy, Divine, Health.

    Necklace, Ring, Ring:

    Ebon Armory, Healthy.

    Weapon 1:

Sword of Endurance, Defending, Restore Magicka Enchant

    Off-Hand:

Shield of Endurance, Infused, Health Enchant

    Weapon 2:

    Restoration Staff, Defending, Absorb Magicka.

Where can I get the gear?

    Plague Doctor: Deshaan

    Warrior-Poet: Vvardenfell

Endurance: Turning in 60 Key Fragments in Imperial City at Planar Armor Trophy Vault or Legionary Trophy Vault OR Daily Dungeon reward.

Engine Guardian: Veteran Darkshade Caverns II, Maj al-Ragath’s Chest.

    Ebon Armory: Crypt of Hearts

    Skills
    Sword & Shield Mainbar:

    Slot 1: Pierce Armor

    Slot 2: Radiant Ward

    Slot 3 Channeled Focus

    Slot 4: Structured Entropy

    Slot 5: Volcanic Rune

    Ultimate: Spell Wall

    Restoration Staff bar:

    Slot 1: Bone Shield

Slot 2: Power of the Light

    Slot 3: Inner Fire

    Slot 4: Ring of Preservation

    Slot 5: Repentance

    Ultimate: Empowering Sweep

    • Pierce Armor – Main taunt which also applies Major Breach & Major Fracture, this reduce the enemies resistances
    • Radiant Ward – Main skill. You can activate this every 6 seconds or before it’s about to expire because of taking damage. It absorbs damage anyway. The higher your health the more shield you will get.
    • Channeled Focus – This will always be down. It grants a good amount of physical and spell resistance, and magicka regen.
    • Structured Entropy – This adds 8% max health and the magicka bonus through mages guild passives
    • Volcanic Rune – Your only CC ability
    • Ultimate: Spell Wall – Immediately swap bars and do a heavy resto attack to replenish magicka.
    • Bone Shield – A stamina based shield, synergy grants Minor Vitality and a shield to ally.
    • Power of the Light – Adds Minor Fracture, replace this with whatever you want if you have a Stamina Templar DPS using this.
    • Inner Fire – Ranged Taunt, only use when needed.
    • Ring of Preservation – Reduces your damage taken by 8%, lasts long, but also cost alot of stamina.
    • Repentance – In case you need health and there are bodies around.
    • Ultimate: Empowering Sweep – You take reduced damage for each enemy hit, this is a handy little feature.

    Championpoints

    Championpoints [690 CP]

    BLUE:
    The Ritual

    The Atronarch

    30 Physical Weapons Expert

    The Apprentice

    100 Blessed, 90 Elfborn, 10 Spell Erosion

    GREEN:
    The Shadow

    The Lover

    100 Arcanist, 100 Tenacity, 30 Healthy/Mooncalf

    The Tower

    RED:
    The Lord

    100 Bastion

    The Lady

30 Hardy, 30 Elemental Defender, 30 Thick Skinned

    The Steed

    20 Ironclad, 20 Spell Shield

    Important Info

    Food

Banana Bunny Hash (Max Health, Max Magicka)

    Mundus Stone

    Atronach (Magicka Regen)

    Race

    Breton

With Morrowind sustain changes, the extra magicka pool and regen is very much needed.
Breton also gives spell resistance which is nice, and with Radiant Ward, our shield will be bigger to slightly offset the health reduction but we also compensate for Nord damage reduction passive in a few ways.

    Potions

    Stamina Potions
Cheap ones, you probably won’t need them that much.

    Magicka Potions
Cheap ones, you probably won’t need them that much.

    Poisons

    Drain Magicka Poison
I never use any myself. Don’t care too much about this, use what you have if you feel like.

    Rotation

    For Mobs:

Radiant Ward -> Channeled Focus -> Radiant Ward -> Volcanic Rune -> Radiant Ward Spam…

    For Boss:

Radiant Ward -> Channeled Focus -> Run and use Pierce Armor -> Position Boss with back toward DPS -> Channeled Focus -> Radiant Ward -> Power of the Light -> Radiant Ward Spam – Repeat (use Bone Shield Supplimental, Ring of Preservation when needed) If you have a healer running shards, it will be more than enough to sustain your magicka, but if you need to replenish, use magicka potion or Spell Wall, swap bars, a few heavy resto attacks.

I only use block for boss heavy hits or when needed otherwise you will lose stamina which is needed for taunt or dodge roll.

    Hi! Some quick questions:

    • How do you feel this compares to DK health-shield tanks with Obsidian Shield?
    • Why Volcanic Rune? You don’t mention it in your rotation notes.

    – Personally I haven’t played DK in years, I have seen some great build for DK Tank, but I think this kind of Templar build are more than great too.

You get a lot of protection, resistance and armor with this build, the shield you get is incredible and it lasts forever as long as you use it (lol), the shield increases based on your max health which is huge as you want at least 60K health with this build.

I have tested this in PvP Dueling and I have survived more than I’ve lost. I am not saying it works in PvP, but it’s strong.

    – I use Volcanic Rune as the only CC in my build because I feel like its a very good CC ability and it is great for crowded fights.
