Do you have an idea for an add-on for TESO that you would like to see?  This is the thread to discuss the good, the bad, and the ugly add-ons that may be developed for TESO.

Note- This is a related topic to this one where specific discussion about the development process and development tools.  Please post ideas for add-ons to this thread, and utilize the other thread for development specific conversation.

That being said, here is a list of previously suggested add-ons:

Addon Suggestions from the TF Community:

    • Chat Bubbles (Chat presented in more of a instant messenger UI) | (C)
    • Decurse (Removable debuff monitor, maybe buff monitor for PvP?) | (C)
    • DPS/HPS/TPS Meters (Inbound/Outbound) | (C)
    • Gear Swapping (Easily swap back and forth between gearsets) | (C)
    • Skill Progress Tracker
    • Name Plate Controls | (C)
    • Crafting Tracker Mod

    Added 1/19/14

    • Item Sorting –(Similar to, but not exactly the same as Gear Swapping)
    • Buff/Debuff Trackers- Buffs and Debuffs can be hard to watch for, depending on how they work.
    • A mod allowing the resizing/moving of ui elements.  Very handy, especially if you don’t have a large monitor.

    (C) = Link to comparable WoW Addon

(Thanks to @Zaydok for managing the OP of the technical discussion thread)

I really hope this one is something someone makes, just because It would be good for a laugh:

A Text-to-voice addon that would play what is said (in /say and /yell) in the robo-voices. (They already have robo-voices in the game, I would LOVE to see that applied to this.)  As a bonus:  We get to pick our voice using the addon.  Anyone who doesnt use the addon gets a default voice for their race. Oh, and only one person’s voice would play at a time, and you could mute others.

Obviously I would use Microsoft Sam for my Khajiit.  I can see it now, RPing in a tavern or something, and slowly it devolves into moonbase alpha. “John Madden!”

Don’t you think this might be a bit OP if you had the ability to swap between Light Armor/Restoration Staff to Heavy Armor/Greatmace?  I mean, I know I would abuse the heck out of it.  not exactly what I would call a User Interface mod.

Everything above is likely Opinion, and/or subject to change.

I personally think that is not a mod that can be used in combat, but a gear manager mod to manage gear sets quickly and easily out of combat was a nice boon.

Ah, so something you can access in Inventory to drag, and drop an entire Gear Set instead of one at a time?  I misread the word “Swap” which is mostly associated with the Weapon Swap mechanic.  Still not UI (Which mostly refers to the HuD, what you can See, not how you manipulate Items.)

Everything above is likely Opinion, and/or subject to change.

UI can indeed relate to how you manipulate items in your inventory.  We are not just talking about the GUI (Graphical UI – how things look in the world), but the UI, how I interface with the world.  This can be inventory mods that sort your inventory, or mods that track prices in auction houses, things like that.

    This ^

Was about to post the exact same thing and then saw your response.

Just to clarify on something for everyone as far as addons and their capabilities go. Addons and what can be done with them will be subject to the same restrictions and rules that exist on the server. Addons will only be able to interact with whatever is exposed via ZOS. So for example, a person using a gear swap addon would only be able to swap gear at the same times a person not running the addon could. This is a convenience type of addon. So you didn’t have to go in to your bags and manually equip each piece. You would instead setup gear sets and it would swap in this for that in each slot. Assuming this is supported in ESO, but just an example to get the point across.

I would love some sort of cookbook/crafting mod. Not so much one that does it for me but one to keep track of things so that I would know what options there are still available and ones that people could update real time since they already mentioned that some things won’t take as many ingredients as others to make (Example being you could make a 2H sword that took four different components and another guy could have made the EXACT same item with only three items.) It would be nice to have a running track of what it takes to make something efficient and what is wasteful of resources. Especially when it comes to high level items that could be super rare…

I think that TESO will have less of a factory UI than even Skyrim when all is said and done. Saying that; it will still be functional for the single player explorationist types but will probably be lacking what any Veteran mmo player would consider as conventional bare necessities. There will be things that every single mmo ever created has had on its UI that Skyrim didn’t have (hence can be assumed TESO won’t have).

    Auctioneer | (C)

Sorry, I diverged the thread here on this sub-topic in an effort seemingly to play moderator.  That was a mistake.  As @Zaydok mentioned, keep discussion of this sub-topic back in this thread that you are reading now.

In hopes of not derailing this thread – a yay/nay thread for a Guild Stores add-on: Auctioneer | (C)

The first paragraph of the OP:

It’s perfectly fine to discuss addons in this thread. :)

    @glak

I saw your comments/questions in the other thread. As you can see from the quote above it says to “discuss the good, the bad, and the ugly”. So you can infer from that statement that we’re anticipating some differing opinions along the way. I’m quite aware of the controversy surrounding Auctioneer. It’ll be alright, the nuts and bolts keeping this thread together will hold for now. Besides, I think it keeps things cleaner to not have a new thread pop up for every addon that is suggested. :)

Personally, I used the hell out of Auctioneer in WoW. Made lots and lots of gold too, and did so in a way that helped keep the economy and my own pockets healthy. If there is an applicable use for something like Auctioneer in WoW, I’ll more than likely use it. And my guess is despite what people who are against this type of addon will say, someone will create it anyway. :)

    Loadout Swapper (out of combat)

Possibly used in addition to Gear Swapper

Is this technically feasible with LUA in ESO?

It should be feasible with Lua, just can’t confirm that it is feasible with ESO. I’d say it is more than likely that it could be supported, but we’ll have to wait and see how things look once more details are announced about addon development and what will be exposed. I know in WoW, when you switched “specs” (talent specs) you bars would also switch automatically. But obviously this would need to be more stand alone in ESO. However, this fact makes me more optimismistic than anything else that this would be able to be supported.

I’m a big fan of Damage Meters (Recount/Skada).

YES they give us bragging rights, e-peen enhancement, etc.

However the biggest reason we need them is they provide us with a ton of information (if done correctly) which can be used as a tool to help yourself, your friend, party, or raid get better.  It is not an exclusive fix all addon, but they can help identify weak spots if used correctly.  A good damage meter can be an invaluable tool in maximizing your raid as well as an individual’s performance.

Other than that, at this time the biggest addon of importance for me was called “Taste the Namebow” from WoW.  They essentially added this as an incorporated function within WoW in recent expansions and all it does is color character names in the chat box according to their class.  All this does is break the monotony of the chat screen.  I personally feel it helps with visibility, though if this mod goes unnotticed for a time I spent most of my time over voice anyways…

    Just my 2 bits

quick gear swapping is fine as long as you can’t do it in combat

im so tired of dps/hps meters, if you need to stare at meters to complete objectives there’s bigger problems.

I hope Zeni doesn’t allow access to the combat log

I look forward to mainly similar graphical addon that I currently use in Skyrim.   What I DON’T want to see is a dps meter addon and floating combat text, cos then it will turn into you just watching numbers instead of being immersed in the game.  This was something that dissuaded me to continue playing WoW when it was ‘expected of me’ especially in a raid siutation.

Better to burn out than fade away…….
