Hey everyone, I’m back from PAX and have some time on my hands. I’ve seen that a lot of you have great questions about our PAX experience and different aspects of ESO gameplay, so I wanted to open up a thread to try and directly address as many as possible.

Please ask one question at a time, and I’ll answer as many as I can for the next 5-6 hours!

Will every class be able to to perform well as a Tank? So far I’ve only heard talk about Dragonknights but have yet to hear if Templars or Nightblades can be viable tanks.

Also any word on arena PvP? (Didn’t see “One question at a time”, so only answer the first one if you want.)

Thank you for taking your time for this!

How many skills are there in each skill line (actives and passives)?

Do you have to slot your passives (decide which ones to use) or are they all activated automatically when you get them?

How was the animations? I heard it could feel floaty/not connecting, especially the basic left click attack.

Edit: didn’t see one question at a time so take a pick :)

Is there an animation wait when you chain attacks, such as clicking an attack 3 times and being locked into the animations until those 3 attacks are complete?  Or can you cancel attacks at any time to block, dodge, etc?

    No.

We don’t know anything about Nightblades yet, however I would give a tentative yes. There are major tanking passives in the heavy armor tree itself, so a sorc could technically outfit themselves in heavy armor and attempt to tank. This question is really hard to answer because we don’t know the extent to how difficult endgame PvE is.

    No word on arena PvP.

I’ve heard there are multiple destro staffs (ones confirmed are fire and lightning), do these have separate skill lines or shared?

    No.

No, however I did see them on the vendor.

During the animation itself, you cannot cancel the attack. The devs commented on this saying that they want the choices you make to matter.

Five active abilities, one ultimate, and five passives per skill line. You don’t have to slot passives, but they are all conditional on you using the appropriate weapons/abilities to take advantage of them. For example, passives in the two-handed weapon tree only work if you are using a two-handed weapon, and passives in the Templar healing tree only affect your healing spells.

Yes, there are fire, lightning, and frost staves. They share skill lines, but certain skills work differently depending on the staff type. Also, some passives in the destro staff line affect different staff types differently.

Were projectiles homing? I.e., if you shot at someone and had them targeted at the time of firing, would the arrow / spell follow them for a guaranteed hit as long as they didn’t dodge roll or block (I’ve seen conflicting information on this).

Yep, the light attack from a resto staff was a short range hit (unsure if there was a healing component), while the power attack is a channeled beam which deals steady damage over time to the target.

Yes, projectiles home in on your target. It’s more noticeable with destro staff fireballs than with arrows, because the travel time on the fireballs is slower.

This ones for Atropos. Watched a ClarionCallTV video on youtube. They said you found a hard mini boss that someone said you couldn’t kill. You apparently said “challenge accepted” and preceded to rip it a new one. I wanted to know how this felt? Was it challenging? How did you beat such an enemy? Just tell us what you want the bards to be singing about ya.

If you chose to use magic, do you have to have a staff to cast it? this is just the impression I got from everything said so far.

Did you get to look at the Racial skill lines?

Our archives mention it — in passing. We have done it before: stronger, faster, better, and with such precision that you didn’t even notice. We did it again to, to your Emperor, if you’ve been paying any attention. You brutes know nothing of how to fight, you just flail about in slow motion until you have won your pyrrhic victories. Why don’t you watch Hammerfell, nudriman, maybe you’ll learn something before you reach the Far Shores.

I didn’t make it to Wayrest, I think players can usually expect to gain access to their primary city around level 10.

One of the bosses in the public dungeon was a big spider type mob, had a powerful health leech ability. Key to beating the boss was to disrupt his lifetap spell ASAP, and kite it using CC and dodge/teleport. This was playing as a sorc, maybe a tougher char in heavy armor could have tanked it a bit better.

I also found a boss in the same dungeon that I couldn’t beat, the final boss was a giant snake which was very tough, summoned adds, had a self-heal, and spit venom which hit extremely hard.
