    I thought it would be like the Dark Souls feet animation that makes the ankles rotate to make your feet adapt to the terrain, not some raw mechanic that would just tilt your whole character… well, that was disappointing.

    Might light guide me, towards what I think is right.

    It does both, actually. It’s the feet moving that tilts the character around. The feet movement can be noticed best on stairs (here’s one of the images from the links in the description):
