Isarii and Atropos kidnap the devs at Pax West

Hey there Tamriel Foundry followers. Myself and @Isarii recently returned from PAX West where we were lucky to spend some quality time at the ESOHQ, chatting with developers and fellow community members. The central theme for the convention was covering the release of Update 12 “One Tamriel” (announced for October 5th). The devs presented a series of panel discussions surveying the major changes with Update 12 as well as handled community Q&A from the live audience and from Twitch chat. While at the booth, I spent some time on PTS testing out the dueling system as well as itemization changes (including the 16 new Undaunted helm/shoulder sets!).

Continue reading for video highlights of the major panels as well as a chance to win a code to unlock the exclusive 2016 convention in-game pet, the Rufous Mudcrab!

I’m looking forward to being able to run dungeons and trials with members of the TF community who play in Ebonheart or Daggerfall. I think One Tamriel is a great opportunity to re-boot the Tamriel Foundry guild on PC North America without having to worry about alliance locks for grouping up, running daily dungeons, or possibly even trials!

I think I’m most excited about the Craglorn revamp and open zones. As it is now, it’s hard to get a group together to work through the content because everyone seems to be at a different point in the quest line. Also, pretty excited about the new guild dailies. Have tried them out on the PTS, and I like how it forces you to revisit places. And of course, dueling—even though I’m TERRIBAD.

I’m most looking forward to being able to tell my friends that they can jump right in and I can play with immediately, even though I may not be in their alliance, and I have level 38 and VR 4 characters! Being able to start a character and go just about anywhere is SO important to getting friends to play! Now we can play even on completely different schedules and always get loot that’s the best for each of us. I can hardly wait for One Tamriel!

You’ve been able to group with other factions for 3 updates now though. That being said, I’m hoping that Craglorn will have more people in it to do some of the pick up group events.

I’ve been asking for scaling since way back in 2013, and I have to say I’m pretty stoked that it’s actually happening. It opens up so much more of the world, and we’ve already got the new guild dailies working to send you all around Tamriel. Beyond that, I’m looking forward to the future changes scaling will enable, like more quests sending us back to what would have been considered leveling zones before One Tamriel.

Also, cross-faction open world PvE is pretty amazing, even if we don’t have a whole lot of reason to group up in the open world just yet. Here’s hoping more of that is on the horizon.

I’m mostly looking forward to the people returning with One Tamriel. I hope some of them stay for a while.

I’ve been playing for the last 2 months now and it’s been great. Pugging about a hundred dungeons as a tank, I can walk people through most of the dungeons including some of the newer ones. Ideally we get a TF guild back together and run the reworked undaunted pledges. Rewards are amazing, some of these monster helmets are pretty cool.

IMO the best update since 2014 trial introduction.

I am looking forward to having all zones be relevant again. With specific sets dropping in each zone around Tamriel, the world with be populated in a way it hasn’t been since launch. As a vet AD character, I can go to Bangkorai and expect to see players wandering around, rather than just a barren PvE zone with intermittent content. The game was designed to have players be part of the living world, and provide context  to the scenes being set. I may not care to jump off my horse and actually help that player in his duel against a mudcrab, but the fact that there is some interaction, and not just a static crustacean is very compelling. Just being able to ride by something happening makes the game feel more alive. It’s a feeling the game has been lacking for some time.

    PC player BTW.

I am looking forward to theorycrafting with new sets, skills and build combinations. The introduction of 30 new sets and the changes made to old sets make this a good opportunity to work on it. The change in the level mechanics, changes-to and the addition-of dungeons and the changes made to world bosses furthers the need for players who are ahead, to understand and develop any necessary strategy, to empower the community in general.

But, if there is one thing I am not looking forward to, is the hugely increased competition for resource nodes across the world. Even with certain instances being created to alleviate the potential lag and overcrowding, the increased competition is likely to force prices up for raw materials and reagents. This may render crafting skills even less accessible (void of nodes and costs) to leveling players and makes it increasingly costly to run dungeons/trials/PvP with potion usage. The BoE/BoP change is also worrying at this stage, but I have hope for the latter stages of the PTS to address it.

So @Atropos will be back for 2.6 then?

I’m by far most looking forward to the scaling of overland zones, to finally be able to go to any zone and find worthwhile content to do anywhere in Tamriel is just amazing and something I’ve wished for since they first revealed the game. The fact that you can go anywhere to find leveled crafting nodes, monsters that drop top-tier hides, new and old item sets at champion rank 160, competitive leveling rates across all levels, new dailies, the list goes on. What makes all of this even better is the fact that there are no more three separate versions of Tamriel, one for each alliance, but truly One Tamriel with no more ghost cities and zones, and should you find out they’re from the other alliance that you so hate, you can always challenge them to a duel, which I believe is another great addition whether you’re an experienced PvPer or just starting out, to hone your skills and perfect your build in a more controlled environment.

Truly, the features coming in One Tamriel go hand in hand with each other, this is the last big change this game really needs and with everything we know about things to come after One Tamriel, I don’t see how any other MMO can compete for me. I’ve been playing ESO on PC since beta and subbed from the beginning and so I’ve been able to see first-hand all the changes and improvements they’ve made to this game overtime and damn is it all worth it now.

I’m looking forward for unification of the whole Tamriel and dueling system. It will add so much to the role-play aspect of ESO and Role-Play communities throughout Tamriel. It will bring more life to the game in general. Finally we’ll be able to venture wherever we want to and whenever we want to, forging our own, unique adventure, meeting and fighting other adventurers!

I am mostly looking forward to being able to roleplay in the right place without the need to grind for long hours to reach a high enough level to enter the zone.

Another very important thing to me is that when ever I create a new character (which happens often because i regularly change my mind how he or she should look like) I am not forced to repeat the same quests in the same starting areas over and over again.

I can explor whole tamriel with one Character. Thats just awesome! I really wish the update was live right now *sigh*

And as you probably already know I would love to travel in companie of a six legged legend throughout the elderscrolls games. THE ALMIGHTY MUDCRAB

    I play on PC ^^

What aspect of Update 12 One Tamriel are you looking forward to most, and why?

It is hard to decide as Update 12 aims to deliver a lot; new sets as well the scaling of older sets and new ways of obtaining highly sought after sets. The addition of veteran versions of dungeons that did not previously possess one. And of course breaking down the zone barriers, to name a few of the changes coming. That said for me personally I most most excited for the removal of zone restrictions and the addition of zone scaling.

As a role-player first and foremost this change is big, massive even! The role-playing community is very much alive and growing and as the game grows so does our community which means we always have new players asking us which faction to play on and where to go for role-play. Having to chose which faction can be daunting especially if you find out the faction is not working for you. With this change that will no longer be an issue. New players can now focus on what really matters, developing their character and stories and presenting them to us to create some amazing role-play experiences.

For veteran role-players we can now enjoy interacting with one another more freely without having to use more character slots to play our favorite character in another zone previously locked off by our faction choice. My character Rhajiir can not enjoy a glass of wine with his friend in Stormhaven and go to the weekly khajiiti festival in Dune without me having to make a clone of him on the Aldmeri Dominion faction. No more wasted character slots or time leveling up copies of my favorite character!

This will also affect Red-Shirting. For those who are not privy to role-player lingo let me explain. Red-Shirting is playing a character that is meant to die in an event, a throw away if you. This can be a lot of fun and it helps other role-players in creating their events. However, if they are say on Daggerfall Covenant and have an event in Rawl’kha but need a Red-Shirt they have to hope they have a friend with a high enough level character to fill the role, this is often not possible. However, with Update 12 this issue will disappear entirely thus making it easier to Red-Shirt which means more players will be willing to step to the challenge.

Update 12 for us role-players is going to be a deal and change how we interact both in-character and out-of-character. Connecting with others players and finding role-play will be easier than ever. I honestly can not wait!

I´m looking forward to have even more fun with this awesome game. With Update 12 I can play with any of my friend and their different characters.

There come many cool new sets and items. I look forward to the dungeon news and the masks. I hope all of my friends get more aktive in this game after the Update.

Craglorn will get more interesting. And the best thing of this Update is you can loot stuff of your level everywhere. I´ll be a happy Nord with Update 12.

Loving crustacean lover looking to adopt a crab!

I love mudcrabs! I hope I get one.

I’m really looking forward to the new and old gear sets, the new ways to obtain them and that all sets will have weapons and jewelry. There will be so much easier to obtain the specific sets you want to be able to create a more custom build. Hopefully there will be much more diversity in builds with this upgrade. I’m a sucker for rare (and often useless) gear :-)

It will also be great to travel around all Tamriel and have content leveled to you level, and hopefully more people around. There are so many nice areas out there that you tend to forget about since you have no business there anymore. And what would be better company to do that than a little mudcrab by side :-)

And all those new monster masks. Can’t wait to try them on. Some just for the cool effect like the blackheart pirate which looks awesome!

And finally, the crafting nodes. You can get stuff at your level anywhere. About time! Gonna be great to farm in any area, to revisit places and look at the landscape while getting that leather (not from my new mudcrab though, not skinning him :D)

    Thanks for a great site!
    I’m on EU PC.

You are asking a Khajiit to explain what is his imperial like friend most expecting of this .. um .. update twelve? This Khajiit is well versed of many trades and things and .. um regions! You ask the right Khajiit for this question!

A Khajiit knows his imperial like friend is looking forward to meet friends in new regions, regions he has not yet visited with his gear for a walk on the wild side. This Khajiit and his imperial like friend hope to sink a jar or two with known and unheard-of friends. A Khajiit is expecting to meet some new patrons too, who will buy .. um things from this Khajiit <smirks>. Things like sharpened swords and snugly breast plates could be found by this Khajiit and his imperial like friend in those not-yet-seen regions too. Yug, this Khajiit knows a lot about swords, breast plates, helmets, potions and sko.. um elixirs of course. This Khajiit’s imperial like friend have heard of some new pledges which are given away by the undaunted for slightly chancy quests. A Khajiit prays to Jone and Jode for his imperial like friend that he comes up to his duty.

A Khajiit is a little bit nervous because his imperial friend have told to this Khajiit that he is expecting to meet many roamers in our beloved homeland too. And he said something weird about a possibility of new events with this new update which ..um would could happen everywhere and for everyone. Just between you and ..me, my imperial like friend is not quite right in the head.

// Hej to all and thanks for your giving away. I didn’t have the opportunity to visit PAX this year. So I’m glad you give us a chance to win a mudcrab code. I play on pc. Thanks!

“Papers?” Ren’da asked, puzzled and somewhat disappointed. It had been a fortnight since he picked up his secretive companion, every moment of which he spent wondering what was in the leather satchels the old Altmer guarded so closely. With the help of a few bottles of Colovian brandy, he finally got the answer he sought.
“Not just any papers. These, my friend, are CE maps,” Dailor replied.
The elf spoke as if they were the Elder Scrolls themselves, but Ren’da remained unimpressed, “This one has never had need for maps, let alone maps of the sea. Any water that cannot be crossed by a caravan holds no interest for Khajiit.”

    “Not sea maps. CE maps.”

    “Ah yes, See-ee,” Ren’da bluffed.

“I acquired them years ago at a very great cost. They called me Dailor the Fool. They said they weren’t worth the price I paid. Others said they weren’t even worth the space they occupied. But now they are the ones who look foolish.”

    “Oh? Why is that?”

“The maps lead to caches that were once filled with useless and mundane items but are now overflowing with great treasures; relics and artifacts of enormous power.”

Treasure. Ren’da’s ears stood up at the mere utterance of the word.

“The same magical forces that brought the Covenant and Pact forces to our towns and cities are likely responsible for this windfall,” Dailor
continued. “Could be the work of a Deadric prince, but for all we know it’s a cabal of tinkerers huddled in some extraplanar office building. Ha! Could you imagine such a thing? Stop the horses, Ren’da. I need to make water like a race guar.”

Dailor lowered himself from the wagon and stumbled toward the tree line.

“Best to go deeper into the woods,” Ren’da warned. “You wouldn’t want the Bosmer to catch you desecrating their trees.”

“Sound advice indeed! Your contributions to my effort will not go unrewarded.” Dailor said as he made his way through the brush. “There will be plenty of wealth to go around when we’re done.”

After relieving himself, Dailor fastened his breeches and made his way back. “You’ll even have enough to replace that rickety old cart. How does that sound, Ren’da?”

Dailor found himself standing on the side of an empty road. “Ren’da?”

Hi all, I have sent messages to the winners for all the codes I was able to acquire at PAX (8 for PC, 5 for Xbox). Unfortunately, I had a shortage of PC codes for everyone who responded. I am going to reach out to ZOS and see if it’s possible to exchange my remaining Xbox codes for PC ones, but I can’t promise anything.

    Thanks to all who participated!
