The ESO Alliance, Episode 2

eso-alliance-bannerI’m excited to announce that tomorrow (Friday, December 6th) will air the second episode of The ESO Alliance podcast. This round-table discussion among notable members of the Elder Scrolls Online fan community will dig into the mechanics unveiled in ZeniMax recent character development video. Your normal hosts are myself (Atropos), Evarwyn from Elder Scrolls Off The Record, and Kyle from ShoddyCast. Our community guest for this week is Road from the TESOCast podcast on TwonkHammer.

We are extremely excited to feature a second guest on the show as we are joined by the one and only Nick Konkle, Lead Gameplay Designer at ZeniMax Online Studios. Nick will be joining us as we unbox the recent ESO video “Character Progression – Be Who You Want To Be” and giving us his thoughts on the character system featured in ESO as well as answering our many questions throughout the show. I really hope you are all able to join in for the live show tomorrow afternoon at 7:00pm EST, because we’ll round up by taking some questions from the audience in chat. If you can’t make the episode be sure to check back for a replay later on Friday evening.

Watch the LIVE Show – 4:00pm PST / 7:00pm EST / 23:00 GMT

Nice. I’m available. Can’t wait to here from Nick Konkle.

I love how they have been re-emphasizing how the class system does not define your role for the people who still did not understand that. However, I am worried about a couple potential flaws in that, particularly for stealth. I would especially like to hear how he can assure me that sneak can work in PvP for any class, as it’s the only stealth non nightblades get. It is much different sneaking past AI mobs programmed not to detect you then it is sneaking past enemy human players with actual eyes. Also, will mages and staff users in particular continue to be left out of sneak attacks like in some prior TES games? Just a couple concerns I had about potential flaws preventing any class from truly being able to fill any roll.

Just a couple things that you might want to ask him.

They have mentioned in past articles that players using sneak in pvp will be invisible while their sneak radius is active

breaking news straight form the horses mouth, ADVENTURE zones to be included at LAUNCH!

What kind of instances can we expect in TESO. Will there be dungeons for larger groups, such as raids? Will there be open world encounters?

We are going to have public dungeons, that are more geared towards two players, and four man dungeons, which we internally call instances. Finally, at launch, we’ll have what we call adventure zones for larger groups of up to twelve, and we’ll be releasing more details on those zones a little bit later. The latter might be compared to what people usually call raids, but they are a little bit different than what people are used to. They are still a lot of fun to play with a number of other players.

Yes. That is a wonderful article. Ask him about Adventure Zones, too.

Also, ask him about communication on consoles and if some of that could carry over to the PC version if it is a good feature. He gave a very vague answer in that same article but didn’t reveal anything. I would like to know how they plan to do that. For example, will there be quick chat, where you press a series of messages to get short phrases such as: “Hello.” “No.” “Follow me.” “Focus the healer.” Etc. Will there be voice chat supported in game? Just a couple guesses. All I know is it can’t be just typing and keyboards because consoles don’t have those.

Another little thing I noticed from the article is that he says they have secure trade, which is always reassuring to hear.

I second a question about ‘stealth radius’ – at the moment I understand that to mean ‘If you are sneaking and a player/NPC/mob enters this radius they have a chance to detect you’ – but how will that work in PvP?

I would have to say it works the same, except where an NPC will always see you, a player may only catch a glimpse when you graze their stealth radius and they might appear faded. Unless they are using mage light then I imagine it will light you up as if your just a person that is sneaking. :)

That stealth area size sounds like it is by default the same size for everyone and according to the medium armor skill tree seems like it will reduce that size depending on how much medium armor your wearing.

@kono usually the above insert in the article will show it live unless they want to broadcast under a different handle.  Last time I think they did it in Skype and it had some issue; hopefully this time around will be a smoother broadcast :)

Nick Konkle always says interesting things and ideas about TESO. Can’t wait to see you guys interview him. P.S to all those who havent seen it make sure to check out shoddycast’s exclusive interview of THE KONK.

The Daggerfall Covenant has a claim on the ruby throne.

We will take it by force from this corrupted Empire and destroy those that stand in our way, whether it be Man, Beast-man, or those twisted Elves.
