After Dark: From Humble Beginnings

Welcome to the first episode of After Dark, a late night Elder Scrolls Online podcast with mature humor. After Dark is hosted by myself (Blade), but I’ve also got my two trusty sidekicks Felord and Sparhawk. In this week’s episode we talk about the Ask us Anything: Variety Pack 3, our answer for The Developers Question of the Week, the baked goods required to get beta invites, and Nazeem dies a terrible death by sabercats. If you enjoy our podcast, be sure to like, comment, and subscribe!

(**Note** We apologize for the audio quality of our dear host Sparhawk, we’ll get his monstrous voice under control next time!)

With the number of ESO podcasts already out there, how do you hope to differentiate this one from the rest?  Sparhawk’s issues aside, is there a way to normalize the sound quality and volume between all the hosts and any future guests?

Good, enjoyable first episode. Little fine tuning as you go along with audio etc, but I think you guys mesh well together and I look forward to epi 2.

I liked the arena tacked on the end there. lol

Apart from Sparhawk distortion, I actually felt that Felord and my audio was pretty level. I was careful to balance them in Vegas before rendering; however, there was only so much I could do with Sparhawks. As for what we plan to do that’s different from the rest, organization and a recurring theme I think is going to be key. I’m planning on dividing the podcast into 4 separate segments, much like The Soup on “E!”. While the segments will change over time while ESO becomes closer to fruition, the cast will follow the same general theme, that way if you’re coming onto the cast just to listen or watch specific parts, you can skip ahead and watch only that area, so you’re not wasting your time sifting through a hour long podcast. The segments, as of now, are:

This Week in Development: Where we cover everything that’s been released about ESO in the previous week. When ESO launches this will cover things like blue posts, raid/pvp fixes, and patch notes.

Developer Question of the Week: This is more of a temporary segment, until game launch or beta. This will more than likely change to a small guide on how to finish a quest, complete a puzzle, or so on in ESO (tips and tricks).

Gentleman’s Club: Really, anything goes here. This week we talked about about the cupcakes and chocolate bars sent to ZOS, next week could be sexy cosplay girls.

Nazeem’s Bloodbath Arena: Our segment where we find ways to interact with the viewers and community, and let them steer this segment. While right now it has to do with Nazeem’s imminent death, it certainly will change with ESO’s launch.

Also, it really just comes down to wanting to do something with the guys I’ve been gaming with together forever. We really enjoyed making the podcast, and will continue to do so whether 10 or 10,000 people listen to us. :)

Good listen, thanks guys! @Sparhawk needs a name change @Atropos. Make it ‘Wind Tunnel.’ xD

I would say however that you didn’t spend much time — if at all — discussing the nature and purpose of the podcast. @Blade, I see your description above this post, but I don’t remember hearing anything on that at the start of the podcast. Maybe in the next one, go over your vision of After Dark?

I really liked the pacing of this cast! So many other casts out there spend entirely too much time discussing topics. Keep em at around 25-30 minutes and I’ll be a regular viewer!

What do you mean, sex toys are not in the lore? There’s a lot of sexual – wanted to write perverted, but that’s too negative – stuff in Elder Scrolls, if you only look for it. The Lusty Argonian Maid is only the tip of the tip of the tip of the iceberg ;)

Unfortunately  Chianti does not have boxed options since the calssification of a chianti wine is actually quite strict as it must be made from grapes form a specific region in italy.

First of all, awesome podcast guys! This is definitely one that I can look forward to hearing every week.

As far as the abilities go and scaling in Cyrodiil – you can only slot 5 or so at once, so once you have that many, you should be at least somewhat competitive against higher level players. The main advantage then will be that higher level players will have “morphed” their abilities into more specialized skills.

I think fast travel is a good thing –  a lot of games that don’t have abundant fast travel still don’t have a sense of danger when traveling. FFXI certainly did; running to a raid was almost as dangerous as the boss itself. I hope ZOS finds a happy medium between wayshrines and their cooldowns/costs and making travel both dangerous and entertaining.

On the racials – Argonians will be able to RP-walk underwater, which is obviously OP. Altmer magicka regen would be OP too with no cooldowns on abilities to limit usage. Yet again, I hope ZOS finds a happy medium here.

…no dragons :(((((((( I would get more from the Developer Question of the Week if they’d just ask what I should eat for lunch. I’m sure all the sweet roll recipe responses would be better than the Big Mac I’d choose otherwise.
